FORT VALLEY, Ga. — For the last 33 years, people have come from near and far for what the festival calls the world's largest peach cobbler.
"The peach cobbler is our main attraction for the festival. We have over a thousand something people that come in for it," says event organizer Tisa Horton.
For the last 12 years, the man behind the cobbler has been Rich Bennett, who says he has the ingredients down to a science.
"32 gallons of milk, 150 pounds of sugar, 150 pounds of flour, the recipe calls for 90 pounds of butter -- I'm only putting in 75 this year, trying to make it a little healthier," says Bennett.
The main ingredient is 75 pounds of Georgia grown peaches.
"Our peaches are supplied right here in Peach County by Lane Southern Orchards and Pearson Farms."
Although he does make minor changes here and there, Bennett says it doesn't make sense to change a recipe that keeps people coming back for more.
"We get in trouble when we change recipes so we like to keep it as standard as possible so that we have a consistent product."
Bennett and his team of cooks will be up bright and early at 3 a.m. to start baking. Cobbler will be served by Saturday at 2 p.m.
Event organizers say the festival will still happen, rain or shine.
