Peach Co. records show conflict between shooting victim, stepson

Peach County arrest records show that deputies knew Nicholas Coker well.

Peach County arrest records show that deputies knew Nicholas Coker well.

They also show a history of trouble between Coker and his stepfather, Lonnie Shaw.

Coker's trip to a hospital early Tuesday allegedly led to a Peach County deputy shooting Shaw.

Sheriff Terry Deese said Coker reported early Tuesday that he was shot at his stepfather's house, 50 West Valley Drive.

His mother, Dawn Shaw, says that's not true.

Deputies responded to the Shaw home around 3 a.m. Tuesday to investigate.

She says a deputy shot Lonnie Shaw, moments after he opened the door.

Arrest records obtained from the Peach County sheriff's office show several previous complaints against Coker:

Feb. 2, 2016: A woman on West Valley Drive said Coker knocked on her bedroom door, asking for money to pay for gas. The woman said she told Coker to "stop bothering her."

Later, Lonnie Shaw called the sheriff's office to report that Coker came to his home. Shaw said "Coker had just pulled up in his driveway and started to yell."

The report says Coker was arrested for violating the order to stay away from 50 West Valley Drive.

Dec. 26, 2015: Coker was arrested and charged with criminal trespass at 50 West Valley Drive. Lonnie Shaw told deputies that Coker was standing in front of his house. He said Coker was "acting very aggressive and when Mr. Shaw told him to leave, he said, 'I'm not going any damn where.' "

The deputy wrote that Coker was "not easy to reason with and could possibly cause harm" to Lonnie Shaw.

Dec. 7, 2015: A woman who lived at 83 West Valley Drive said she'd been told Coker broke into her camper and took a bottle of insulin and several needles. The woman she didn't know for sure that the items had been taken. The officer said he frisked Coker earlier in the day and found a bottle of insulin but no needle. The officer dropped Coker off at the Crawford County line.

Aug. 2, 2015: A Shaw family member told a deputy that he and Coker were at a home on Burnett Road in Peach County when Coker went to put a necklace on the man's neck. The man said he saw a syringe in Coker's hand and believes Coker stuck him in the neck with the syringe. The man said Coker told him to "pray about it."

The man also said he believes Coker took items from him, including a tablet and a Bluetooth speaker. The man admitted being "high on methamphetamines" at the time.

Coker said the man gave him the items, but he promised to return them.

Dec. 6, 2013, Lonnie Shaw told deputies that Coker and a friend came to his house and threatened to kill him. Coker allegedly told Shaw, "I know you have a gun and I have one also" and said he would "blow his brains out in the street." Lonnie Shaw's brother said he heard the threats but would not tell a deputy what he heard.

Jan 27, 2012: Coker was arrested for allegedly running a stop sign while driving with a suspended license.

Nov. 11, 2010: Coker was arrested for driving with a suspended license. His license was suspended for failing to appear in court on three cases.
