Central City Park is getting an upgrade, and it includes a brand new outdoor skate park.
The city currently has an indoor skate park at Central City Park.
"I think an outdoor skate park will be amazing," said Evan Daniell, who rides a scooter.
For the most part, he's satisfied with Macon's indoor facility, but compared to the ones in Atlanta, he says Macon's doesn't match up.
"We saw a lot of cool ramps and more people than here," said Daniell.
In the next year, he won't have to make that trip. All his tricks and turns, he can perfect in Macon.
Not only will the plan attract more local skaters, but it could bring riders from across the state for competitions.
"The park can be designed in a way that can have competitions here in Macon," said Parks and Recreation Director Reggie Moore.
Moore showed us the facility's blueprint. He says SPLOST funds will take care of the $400,000 allocated for the project.
There are two phases in his plan. Part one will include standard equipment. Part two will incorporate advanced units.
"We will add some bowls, some of the things that you will see in a typical skate park," said Moore.
Skaters won't have to wait for crews to finish phase two before enjoying the park. It will be functional after phase one.
Moore expects to break ground in the next few months.
