New birthing center opens in Forsyth

The center also offers regular check-ups, exams, pre-natal care and support groups for parents.

Richetta Hendrson brought 4 babies into this world, all born in hospitals.

She says each time she didn't get the personal interaction she hoped for.

"Being a mother, going through the pregnancy, there are a lot of things that can scare you or that can cause a concern and you want your concerns heard," says Henderson.

The goal of Obgyne Birthing Center for Natural Deliveries is to provide women a place to give birth with midwifery care. Henderson says it provides her with a sense of community.

She says, "that was important to me. That was very important to me."

Giving birth in a birthing center isn't the perfect fit for every woman.

You can't be pregnant with twins, and you have to carry the pregnancy to full term. With no diabetes, high blood pressure or a high risk pregnancy.

Angela Gamino is carrying twins, and she says she is interested in the other services available.

"If you can come and know that other people experience the same thing, and you're not alone, and they'll support you through it, you don't have to feel so alone," says Gamino.

The center also offers regular check-ups, exams, pre-natal care and support groups for parents. Something they say women around Forsyth drive miles to get in Macon or McDonough.

"We'll take your care here, and go through all your exams and your prenatal care and then we will plan a hospital delivery," says the director of the center, Chelsia Ogletree.

She says says finding proper women's healthcare in rural areas is tough.

"We're here because the maternity mortality rate is extremely high in the state of Georgia, with birth centers being present in the area it decreases the mortality rate for women and their babies."

The center is having its grand opening Dec. 22nd at 2 p.m. off Martin Luther King Junior Drive in Forsyth.
