Members of Macon's 48th Brigade return from deployment

The first group has landed back at Fort Stewart while the next group will arrive in July

FORT STEWART, Ga. — Some members of Macon's 48th Brigade are back in Georgia Monday.

13WMAZ reported last year that the National Guard unit and its 2,200 members were headed to Afghanistan to help train security forces there.

Guard spokeswoman Desiree Bamba says the first group from the 48th landed today at Fort Stewart outside Savannah. Other members will be returning through mid-July.

She said the 48th had what they called a 'good deployment' with no reported casualties.

The 48th has now been overseas four times since the September 11 terror attacks, and this was the second or third deployment for many members.
