WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — This week, places all across America are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Mission Launch that led to man's first steps on the moon.
In Warner Robins, the Georgia Museum of Aviation hosted "Rocket Launch Live" as part of the Global Rocket Launch to commemorate the anniversary.
Kids from across Central Georgia launched more than 85 stomp rockets at 9:32 a.m — the same time Apollo 11 took off 50 years ago.
Kaia Reece, 11, and her 15-year-old brother Xenius put together their own toy rockets to launch today.
She says the U.S. took a big step forward when Neil Armstrong took his first steps on the moon.
"We took a new step into technology...because it's gotten better since then...more people have realized how amazing it was for our country to do that," Reece said.
Later, kids watched a museum volunteer shoot a Saturn V toy rocket into the air. It is a model of the same rocket that was launched in 1969.
The Museum of Aviation and Georgia College in Milledgeville have family fun days planned for Saturday to commemorate the anniversary of the moon landing.
