There have been two shootings in a week at the Macon Gardens apartment complex.
The latest shooting happened Thursday night, and Tavarous Veal, 19, of Macon died at a local hospital.
The Bibb County Sheriff's Office said the gunman who killed Veal was in a white SUV with several other males. No arrests have been made.
Last Saturday, a man was wounded at an outdoor party.
The Federal Department of Housing and Urban Development said it is still working to move tenants out of Macon Gardens.
For years, tenants at Macon Gardens have complained of mold, plumbing problems, insects and more.
The complex has 132 units and everyone who lives there has some portion of their rent paid through Section 8. It gets $56,000 of government money every month on average.
That's about $600,000 a year.
But after years of failed inspections, HUD decided to pull funding from Macon Gardens in January. However, tenants who qualify will retain their HUD subsidy and will move to another complex.
Now, HUD spokesman Joe Phillips said they have not yet dispersed housing choice vouchers that will let tenants move.
Phillips said previously he expected to know more about a timeline earlier this month. Once HUD secures those vouchers a local public housing authority will meet with the tenants, owner and manager to go over the process.
It's important to note that HUD won't completely cut off payment to the complex until all eligible tenants get their Section 8 vouchers.
We reached out to Phillips about the status of those vouchers. He said he is looking into it and will update us as soon as he knows more.
Thursday night's shooting was the second at the complex in a week.
