Worksource Middle Georgia helps people get back on their feet and into a job

If you need help with resumes, cover letters, finding a specific role, or tuition assistance, they hope you reach out to them.

MACON, Ga. — On Sunday, Worksource Georgia held a job placement session at Bibb Mount Zion Baptist Church.

This comes after GEICO announced they were laying off about 6% of their employees.

"We work with job seekers and we work with employers to help connect talent with opportunity," Worksource Georgia Project Manager Paul Allen said.

Allen spoke to community members about the steps they can take if they're looking for their next career opportunity or were recently laid off.

"A lot of times this is a good opportunity, a blessing in disguise if you will, to get skills development," Allen said.

He said they can help just about everyone for free, whether you're looking for job training, resume or cover letter help, finding a specific role, or seeking tuition assistance to go back to school.

"So for people who are eligible- it's a low-income program. But if you've been laid off and are unlikely to return to work in your field then you would qualify for it," Allen said.

You can also qualify for tuition assistance if you receive any form of government assistance or if you've been dislocated from a job.

Zahkia Smith attended the session after finding out about it through her church.

"This was such an amazing opportunity to learn everything about what they have available," Smith said.

She said she currently has a job but knows people in the area who were laid off by Geico.

"I'm actively looking to get back into school to better myself so I just wanna learn as much as I can about how you can go to school and be successful, what types of recourses they have for those who want to get back into school,"

And if you're someone feeling anxious about landing on your feet with a new role, Allen wants you to know there are plenty of jobs out there.

"We have more jobs in Middle Georgia than we can fill. So there are available positions and they need people with good work ethic, a positive attitude," Allen said.

If you'd like assistance from Worksource Georgia, you can stop by one of their career centers in Central Georgia.
