Work to fix the I-16 bridge that was damaged by a passing truck in late July has begun.
A release from the Georgia Department of Transportation says the contractor – Gregory Bridge Company – secured a $830,000 repair contract and now has 45 days to complete all work.
On Monday, signs will be installed and bridge demolition will happen soon after.
The right southbound lane of US 441 will remain closed until the bridge reopens.
There may also be closures of I-16E at exit 51 beginning Tuesday, September 5, however specific closures have not yet been formally announced by GDOT.
In the event drivers encounter a road closure, a marked detour will be in place.
Work will not be happening over Labor Day weekend.
