Woman indicted for murder in 1991 case

Almost 30 years after Sabrina Long disappears, Melinda McSwain is charged with her murder.

A woman now faces murder charges in a 1991 case. Sabrina Long was last seen almost 30 years ago in her Macon home. Back in October, the suspect charged with kidnapping Long was arrested. She now faces a list of charges including murder.

On Tuesday Melinda McSwain was indicted on murder charges for a woman's 1991 disappearance. Sabrina Long was last seen in her Macon home on Aug. 14. In an interview five years after Long disappeared, her mother, Sue Corley, says she could never forget it.

"Mommas feel, and in my heart, I don't think she's alive," said Corley.

Macon-Bibb County District Attorney David Cooke says 46-year-old McSwain is charged with kidnapping with bodily injury, malice murder, and felony murder.

"Sometimes, all a case needs is fresh set of eyes, and a new agent, Madison Holland with the GBI, was assigned to the case," said Cooke.

McSwain is from Broxton, Georgia and authorities say she was friends with Long.

"Any crime like this has substantial consequences for the family, so obviously, our hearts go out to them," said Cooke.

Although he wasn't able to give further information about what exactly happened to Long or why it happened, an indictment alleges the kidnapping caused the death of Sabrina Long.

"We just look forward to the day we can get justice for Sabrina, the Long family, and the community," said Cooke.

Back in October, law enforcement told 13WMAZ McSwain and Long went to high school together. Investigators have not said whether they've found Long's remains. Her accused killer remains in the Bibb County jail.
