Woman shot while hanging Christmas decorations in west Macon, per report

They say the shooting happened around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, and the woman is currently in critical condition.

MACON, Ga. — A woman was shot in a west Macon neighborhood around 1 p.m. on Saturday, according to a press release from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

The report says deputies responded to a report of shots fired in the 3700 block of Log Cabin Drive, and found Samantha Jones, 58, at the scene. Jones had been shot, and was transported to a local hospital.

Family members at the scene say she was hanging Christmas decorations outside the house when she was shot. Multiple shell casings were found in the street where the shooting happened.

The Sheriff's Office says she is currently in critical condition.

Investigators are currently working to determine what led up to the shooting. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

The shooting happened on across from Filmore Thomas Park, next to a convenience store on Log Cabin Drive. Since May 2022, this is the fifth shooting that has taken place on Log Cabin Drive.

In May 2022, Corey Jackson was arrested and charged with the murder of 27-year-old Gabrilla Jackson on Log Cabin Drive, according to prior 13WMAZ reporting.

In December 2022, a 16-year-old was shot and killed on Log Cabin Drive.

In May 2023, Treyvon Walker was arrested and charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Kaneza Owens. 

In April 2023, a 21-year-old was shot and killed on Log Cabin Drive.
