Macon-Bibb County is taking a step toward more rules and regulations for movie-makers.
That's after a recent planned explosion on Cotton Avenue as part of the Fifth Wave movie filming left lots of damage on nearby buildings.
They've decided to form a committee of law enforcement and other county officials directly involved in bringing movies to Macon and ensuring safety during filming.
That committee would be responsible for setting guidelines for filmmakers.
Most of the rules and regulations already exist, says county spokesman, Chris Floore. It'd just be a matter of compiling all of that information into a comprehensive packet for those interested in filming in Macon and formalizing the rules that don't exist yet.
They say it's an effort to keep the community safe while keeping Macon movie-friendly.
"Heaven forbid there would be loss of life. So we want to make sure that we're proactive and put provisions into place that protect our property, our citizens and we get fees that are due us," Commissioner Elaine Lucas said.
Lucas says she also wants to see more local involvement when movies come to town, like catering by Macon businesses.
