Meet the Central Georgia man who has over 40 fallen trees on his property after Helene

Neighbors cut a path so he can better maneuver around his property, but he doesn't plan to touch trees until someone comes to survey the property.

WHEELER COUNTY, Ga. — Hurricane recovery efforts have been a challenge, as many communities remain without power and other essentials.

It can be even more challenging for the elderly, who may not be able to clear debris as easily.

That problem is exemplified in 96-year-old J.B. Angelo Crowe. The Wheeler County resident has roughly 48 fallen trees on his property.

They cover his house, and his log cabin. Debris blocks his driveway and covers his car port, and branches are split every which way.

"I'm just convinced that a tornado touched down," Crowe says.

The National Weather Service says that a tornado did come through the county.

Crowe recalls the night the storm came through.

"I did hear two snaps, I heard those when they snapped off, and then I tried to get out the back kitchen door and I couldn't," Crowe said.

Friday morning he says neighbors stopped by and helped him get out of his home, clear a path, and start his generator.

He's grateful that both he and his dog Lola are in good shape, and as emergency management crews work throughout the county he hopes someone can help get his property picked up.

"I don't wanna move anything until they come out and do a survey. As a matter of fact, we're getting ready to go to Alamo to see if we can find the EMA [director]. No telling where he is. He's probably surveying damage but he needs to come here," Crowe said jokingly.

Crowe is still living on the property and is running power through a generator, and family looking after him, but he'll need more hands for the clean-up ahead.
