Before October, people in west Macon will have new place to play at Filmore Thomas Park, off of Log Cabin Drive.
Commissioner Al Tillman says the park is one of a kind.
Dee Dee and Jaden Scott will soon have a new area to play once Filmore Thomas Park opens. They say they are most excited about the splash pad that is going in the park.
Their mother, Brittaney Scott, says the park will also be a good place for them to spend time as a family.
“It’ll be a good getaway, something me and my kids can go and do together,” said Scott.
Commissioner Al Tillman says the $1.7 million SPLOST project will be a huge gain for not just west Macon but the entire city.
“It is the nicest park in Macon-Bibb County,” says Tillman.
He says the latest addition to Filmore Thomas Park is an education amphitheater that is being built. He says it will seat 800-1000 people, and it will welcome the opportunity for group educational activities and possible concerts.
Commissioner Tillman's son, Dallas, agrees with Dee Dee and Jaden, and says he cannot wait to play at the splash pad.
“I do like playing outside a lot, but I like it even better when there’s water,” said Dallas.
Tillman and Scott say the park will provide a safe area for kids in the community.
“Something positive where they're not getting into any trouble,” said Scott.
Tillman says the park hours will be from around 7 or 8 a.m. until dusk.
