Wesleyan College in Macon celebrates 185 years educating women

The women's college was founded in 1836.

MACON, Ga. — Wesleyan College is celebrating 185 years of educating women.

Wesleyan is a private, liberal arts women's college on Forsyth Road. 

Founded in 1836, Wesleyan was the first college in the world chartered to grant degrees to women, according to Wesleyan's website.

"Today, we continue to educate women to do the extraordinary in their professions and in service to their communities," the website says.
