Washington Memorial Library holds graduation ceremony for kids in the One Thousand Books Before Kindergarten program

Children who met their reading goals in the 1KB4K program got to walk in their cap and gowns and get a certificate of completion.

MACON, Ga. — Kids got to wear caps and gowns and walk to get certificates for completing the 1KB4K program at the Washington Memorial Library on Saturday.

The 1KB4K program is designed to help young children develop language skills critical to their success in school and support their ability to learn to read. It stands for One Thousand Books Before Kindergarten.

Around 10 kids got a diploma for reading 1000 books, and it normally takes 2 years to complete the program.

The kids had paper spreadsheets to keep up with all the books they read.

Families waited to see their child walk down a walkway decorated with balloons and streamers, and they even had traditional graduation music.

Congratulations to all the kids who graduated the program!
