WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Warner Robins Police Officer was arrested and charged with sexual battery after being accused of inappropriate touching while on duty, the Georgia Bureau of Investigations said in a press release.
They say a complaint was filed against Ray Dexter Ewings, 30, for allegedly touching someone in a sexual manner while "on duty and acting in his official capacity as a WRPD officer," the press release said.
That complaint was filed on July 18, and roughly 12 days later, he was fired by the department after an internal investigation, the GBI says.
An arrest warrant was then secured on Friday and Ewings was booked into the Houston County Jail on Tuesday.
According to jail records, Ewings remains behind bars without bond at this time.
The GBI says that Ewings is charged with sexual battery and violation of oath of office.
After the investigation, the case will be given to the Houston County District Attorney's Office for potential prosecution.
13WMAZ reached out to the Warner Robins Police Department to request comment, but they did not immediately respond.
The GBI says that the investigation into the case is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to call the GBI's Regional Investigative Office in Perry at 478-987-4545. They also say anonymous tips can submitted through the GBI's "See Something, Send Something" app, on their website here or by calling 1-800-597-TIPS.
