WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Some folks in Warner Robins got a scary wake-up call on Friday when a fire swept their apartment building.
The call came in around 5:45 a.m. to the Village North Apartments at 135 Ignico Drive.
Fire chief in training Ned Dixon said there were no reported injuries.
Neighbors said they felt blessed to get out safely.
"We were all asleep, but I was the first one to wake up because I heard the glass shatter," Devin Casey said. "I saw red under my bedroom door."
In the early hours Friday morning, a fire broke out behind Casen's apartment.
Casen said he lived with his puppies, Sheba and Neyo, and with his girlfriend and a friend.
The flames were blazing; it woke up his neighbors.
Theresa Goodwin, who called 911, said a cat's cries woke her up.
When she got outside, she said she saw smoke going and was concerned for her neighbors.
It was "a blessing" to have the 911 operator tell her how to alert her neighbors and get them to safety, Goodwin said.
"I praise God about it," Goodwin said.
Flames grew for about an hour behind Casen's apartment, Dixon confirmed.
By the time he got outside, Casen said he saw the back half of his home on fire.
"Flames," he said. "Singes from the tree in the back. Just watching everything I have go up in smoke."
But, thankfully, the fire didn't touch anyone.
Neyo kept running back inside, Casen said, so he had to follow and get him back.
But, on the second time, he fell and scraped his arm. Neyo also had some red paint splattered on his body.
They're ok though, Casen said.
"It's mainly gonna be me picking up the pieces and putting them back together," Casen said. "Gotta restart all over again."
Warner Robins Fire is still investigating the cause of the fire. If you have information, you are asked to call 478-293-1031.
