'Remember you're in the school zones' | Warner Robins updates school speed zone citation law

They updated their law to follow state requirements. It says the fine would not to the driver of the vehicle but go to the person the car is registered to.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The City of Warner Robins is bringing their speed zone citation policy up to state law requirements. They are now following Senate Bill 183, which was passed in 2023.

It focuses on school zone speed citations and bus citations. There are five zones within the city of Warner Robins.

These are near Warner Robins High School, Lake Joy Elementary and Primary, Northside High School and Huntington Middle School.

7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. are times you need to remember when driving around the International City.

"Slow down, remember you're in the school zones," Chief Wayne Fisher said.

Fisher says this bill applies to two violations.

"Either bypassing the school bus when they should not have or speeding through a school zone," he shared.

The fine would not go to the driver of the vehicle, but go to the person the car is registered to.

"They'd be notified at least three times of the violation," he said.

He says after the third time you have 30 days to pay your fee. If you don't, a hold will be put on your registration.

"You will not be able to renew your tag until you've resolved the matter with the photo enforcement citation," he said.

To do that you have two options, go online and pay, or appeal the ticket, which Fisher says people fail to do properly.

"Follow the process that's enumerated on the citation it explains to you how to establish a court date so you can go and have your hearing and challenge it there," Fisher said.

With each ticket you collect it can cost a little more, and he says costs could rise up to about $130.
