It's official: Scott approved as Houston superintendent

Houston County's school board has named Mark Scott as their choice to be the next school superintendent.

By a 5-0 vote, Houston County's school board approved Mark Scott as their new school superintendent.

Last month, Scott was named as the sole finalist for the job.

Scott is a former principal at Northside High School and currently the assistant superintendent for human resources.

Scott, a Milledgeville native, spent some of his career working in Baldwin County, when he transitioned over to Houston County's Northside High School, where he worked as principal before working at the board office.

This will be the second consecutive Northside High School employee selected as superintendent,. Superintendent Robin Hines joined the board office after also working at Northside High.

Hines is retiring at the end of this school year.
