WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Applications are open in Warner Robins for people who need roofing or heating and cooling repairs.
The city received a federal grant to help their lower-income community and to help clean up blight.
Derrick Brooks lives in the Camellia Circle area. He has air conditioning units in his windows, which he says aren't aesthetically pleasing.
However, you'll see them throughout the neighborhood. Built in the 50's, Brook's home has a lot of wear.
"My shingles are blowing off. It's leaking inside," Brooks said.
He says people comment on the conditions.
"I've heard many say it needs a lot of work, restoration and stuff," Brooks said.
Brooks started work himself, but not much.
"Being disabled and on a fixed income, its not progressing as well as I would have liked," he said.
Brooks says the city's new grant targeting roofing and HVAC repairs could be his chance to get help.
"Maybe I can get something done here," he said.
KIim Mazo, Warner Robins' Assistant Director of Community and Economic Development says they're putting about $50,000 into the program.
"We just wanted to offer this because there's not very much assistance for homeowners right now," Mazo said.
To be eligible folks must live west of Highway 247, north of Russell Parkway, and east of about Northside Drive.
Here is a map:
"We specifically target those homes in hopes of helping the blight in the areas," she said.
Mazo says the city has got interest only from brook's neighborhood so far, but many more could be eligible.
"Reach out don't hesitate," Mazo said.
Mazo could not give specific income requirements.
They encourage people to contact the city's Community and Economic Development Office with eligibility questions.
You can go pick up at application at the office at 610 Watson Boulevard. You can also find them online here.
Applications close next Friday, Nov. 17. Mazo says it could possibly be extended.
