Warner Robins mayor and city council approve bond for city projects

The Warner Robins mayor and city council held a special called meeting to approve a $34 million bond for major city projects.

The Warner Robins mayor and city council agreed to borrow at least $34 million to pay for some projects in the city. People living in Warner Robins are going to see a few new buildings and recreation projects. The mayor and council approved the bond at a special called meeting Tuesday.

At the sound of the whistle, the football players practicing at a Warner Robins field know it's time to game up. Eric Hall says his son puts his all into every practice.

"It's a relief from school work all day, and he gets to come out here and play with his friends," said Hall.

Hall says his son also plays baseball through the recreation department. Right across the street, the Warner Robins mayor and city council approved a bond for about $34 million to help pay for recreation projects in the city.

Councilman Tim Thomas says when he was first elected, the outcry was for recreation. Of those funds, he says about $20 million will go towards the recreation projects. He says now they can make those dreams a reality.

"With a city our size, quality of life is very important," said Councilman Thomas.

Hall says the different recreation options give his son a chance to get outside of the house.

"It's getting away from videogames. It's hanging out with his friends that he sees every day in school. It's being in the sunlight," said Hall.

Hall says it's the discipline and teamwork the kids learn on the field that make them better off the field.

"There's so many kids where they don't know each other and this will bring them all together," said Hall.

Councilman Thomas says a new courthouse and fire station is in the works. The city's interest rate for the bond is 2.76 percent, which Councilman Tim Thomas says is low.
