WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — Olde World Barber Shoppe has a tradition of giving away free haircuts when they bring on new barbers like Jesse Diaz.
"I know it's a tough time for everybody. You know, inflation's up right now so I think it's a win-win situation for everybody," Diaz said.
He's been cutting hair for about a year and recently started working at Olde World Barber Shoppe.
On Saturday, he worked on perfecting his skills with each free haircut he gave away.
Danie Major is an assistant manager at the barbershop and said they always get great feedback from the community when they have free haircut days.
"The outpour is always amazing," Major said.
She said it gets them happy clients, who don't have to spend a dime to look good.
One of those clients was Ja'lyon West.
"It's fun in here. Like everybody nice, like it's cool. It's a lot of positive energy in here," West said.
West said he usually pays about $20 for his haircuts somewhere else. His uncle brought him to Olde World Barber Shoppe on Saturday to get a cut from Diaz.
"I think he's doing a good job. I mean he cut my uncle's hair so yeah, he did a good job on my uncle's hair," West said.
Diaz said he appreciated the opportunity to learn more.
"I just like how everybody's been very helpful. You know, giving me as much advice and tips," Diaz said.
He also had guidance right next to him the entire time.
"Jesse's set up right next to our manager so that he's doing one on one training with him through the day. Anytime he needs any help, we've got a barber right there with him," Major said.
A haircut can mean a lot to someone.
"I feel like a new person," West said.
And that's why Olde World Barber Shoppe is happy to pay it forward.
"We try to make sure that we can provide haircuts for everybody in the community no matter what," Major said.
She said they'll continue the tradition of free haircuts in the future, and people can follow their social media to see when those will happen.
Olde World Barber Shoppe has two locations, in Warner Robins and Macon.
