Voting underway Tuesday across Central Georgia, folks line up at polls to cast their ballots

People want to make their voices heard for some items on the ballot this election.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Polls opened Tuesday morning for people to vote in local elections, including at the Houston County annex building.

For Jerrel Pierce, it was a chance to make her voice heard.

"I missed early voting, but that was no excuse for me to continue to be apart in speaking and voting," explained Pierce. "I'm thankful I got my chance to vote for Houston county."

There were no long lines at the Houston annex building voting location early Tuesday morning.

In Houston, continuing the county wide SPLOST is on the ballot, along with a brunch bill that will determine if restaurants can serve alcohol starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday instead of 12:30 p.m.

Sharon Pettit lives in Houston, and that was one of the big ticket items on the ballot for her.

"I just wanted to give my opinion and my voice for the brunch bill in Warner Robins," explained Pettit.

Other races going on in Central Georgia include in Dublin, where people are voting on city council and board of education races. Laurens county is voting on a county wide SPLOST. Over in Bleckley county, they are electing a new sheriff between candidates Cape and Chris Smith.
