MACON, Ga. — Election day is about three weeks away, and over the next few weeks, 13WMAZ's Verify the Vote team is working to get your questions answered about how voting works.
The team will break down everything from how ballots are counted, to the latest updates from the Secretary of States office.
With early voting starting Tuesday, October 15th, here's what you need to know.
Some election rules have slightly changed here in Georgia, it doesn't have any impact on what you see when you come to the polls.
Before you walk into the precinct, Bibb County Elections Supervisor Thomas Gillon says make sure your phone is turned off and you have a government photo ID.
"Normally it's a driver's license. It can also be a passport, concealed carry permit, a voter ID that we make," he shared.
You can also bring a student ID from a state university or public school. Gillon says to remember you can't campaign within 100 feet of the polls.
"Don't come in wearing your favorite shirt or hat, talking about a particular candidate or party," he said.
When you walk into the voting location, you'll see an attendant who will verify your information and give you a voter card. From there, you take the card to a touch screen.
From there, you'll cast your vote. All candidates names will be available for you to choose from.
"You won't request a particular party ballot, that's only for a primary election when you have to choose which party you want to vote for. This one, you can pick all from one party, pick all from the other party, or you can cherry pick back and forth," he said.
When you're done making choices, you'll print your results.
"Examine the ballot, make sure everything is the way you want it," Gillon said.
On your way out they'll give you a sticker, so your experience should be fairly normal.
Remember, you don't have to go to your assigned polling location for early voting, you can vote at any early voting location within your county.
In Bibb County, the only other early voting change is that if you're elderly or disabled, you can vote at the Courthouse Annex at the Macon Mall.
You can go to the Secretary of State's My Voter Page to see where you can vote. You can fill out an application and submit it online, by email, by fax or in person. You can find the application on the Secretary of State's website.
