Man drowns over Labor Day weekend at Lake Lanier, officials say

The victim apparently swam from the shore back to his boat when he went under and did not resurface.

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — A man from Vinings, Georgia, drowned over the weekend while swimming in Lane Lanier, according to Georgia DNR officials.

According to officials, Hasani Kamau Widemond, 46, apparently swam from the shore back to his boat when he went under and did not resurface. 

Game wardens eventually located him in approximately 25 feet of water using sonar.

Widemond's body was eventually recovered thanks to assistance from the Hall County and Forsyth County fire departments.
