Veterans of Foreign Wars and Methodist children's home partner up for fishing event

VFW and the children's home partnered up, so volunteers could teach kids how to fish and enjoy a day at the lake

MACON, Ga. — The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) group in Macon partnered with a Methodist children's home to enjoy an afternoon on the lake.

Over 40 kids and eight supervisors came together to enjoy an afternoon of fishing together at Lake Tobesofkee.

The group brought about 30 rods and reels and several other rods were donated. Bass Pro specifically donated a $1,000 gift card for VFW to gather fishing supplies. Lake Tobesofkee's bait shop donated 30 cups of live bait for children.

The event itself was specifically to help the kids get exposed to fishing and help them learn a new activity or hobby. They also wanted to show how relaxing fishing could be.

Ultimately, VFW wanted to enjoy a beautiful day on the lake and hopefully make memories for the kids at the Methodist church.

"The joy that they're doing, or they're experiencing makes it 10 times better for us because we get to enjoy their happiness and be a part of it by helping out," Commander of VFW Post 658 Lamar Pounds said.
