A building that once lit up the Macon skyline has had its lights turned off for years.
Nicole Butler is giving us a sneak peek inside the old Ramada hotel that is coming back to life for one day only.
Looking at Macon's skyline, there's a building that towers above the rest, the vacant Ramada Hotel.
"I wish it were used for something, but yeah, it's great," Brian Ochoa says.
Ochoa's wish is coming true this Saturday. The hotel is opening its ballroom doors for one day only for a pop-up flea market.
"Well, I'd like to see what's in there, and I do like furniture -- that's my thing. A lot of my furnishings in the Gentry are gently used items. I don't buy anything new," he says.
The hotel donated some of its furniture to the Historic Macon Foundation for a fundraiser.
From sofas to artwork and lamps, everything must go.
"There's some floral print chairs that I really like, that there is just one or two of them, so I think the people that come at 11 a.m. are going to get those unique items for sure," Director of Engagement with Historic Macon Foundation, Rachelle Wilson says.
Wilson says the prices are a steal. Many items are being sold for just a dollar and the average cost is around $5.
"There's all kinds of different things, and I think the beauty of this kind of stuff is kind of the hunt of finding the right piece for you, and there's a lot of potential to take something you find here and make it your own," she says.
Wilson says they hope to make a couple grand off of the sale. All of the proceeds will go toward the Historic Macon Foundation.
The hotel is located on the corner of Riverside Drive and First Street. The event starts at 11 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. on Saturday.
