Two people died when a log truck collided with another vehicle in Jones County.

It happened around 11 a.m. at the intersection of the Eatonton Highway and the new Gray bypass.

The second vehicle, a flatbed truck, caught fire after the wreck.

Emergency crews are still on the scene, but traffic is moving slowly through the intersection.

So far, the victims have not been identified.

According to Sheriff Butch Reece, the flatbed truck was coming from Eatonton and had stopped at the intersection. The driver started to go and didn't see the log truck heading toward Milledgeville.

Shortly after the wreck ,the flatbed caught on fire. Witnesses tried to get the driver out but were unable to open the doors. Both of the drivers were killed . The sheriff says they are working to notify families.

We spoke to Danielle Tapee over the phone. She lives in Gray and she says she passed by shortly after the accident.

"But the flames were literally just bellowing out of the vehicle. It's an accident and it can happen to anyone. You can't eliminate human error and you can't blame it on the road but you can make it a safer path to travel,” says Tapee.

She says it is something that could have happened to anyone. Tapee says she will fight to make it safer.

"It's very scary in that if I had not been delayed a few seconds prior to leaving my house there's a possibility that I could've been involved in this accident as well. It's not just this accident there's been many others in this accident in a very short time since it's opened. I'm going to try to do everything I can to do my part and speak up to make it safer,” says Tapee.

Many people commented on the WMAZ Facebook page about the bypass. Jayne Phillips commented "TOTALLY SENSELESS! It does not take too much common sense to clearly see that the absence of any kind of traffic light would turn the intersection into a deadly one."

Phyllis Bradford commented "Praying for the families. Please put a red light there. I go to Athens, Georgia that way to my hometown and I wait til there is no traffic coming before I cross. Red light please."
