Fiery truck crash in Wilkinson County third accident in two months at same intersection

It happened at an intersection with a history of serious wrecks.

MACON, Ga. — Two trucks crashed at a Wilkinson County intersection with a history of devastating wrecks, according to Wilkinson County Coroner Billy Matthews.

It happened at the intersection of two major highways: SR-112 and U.S. Highway 441.

“This is a very dangerous intersection," Deputy Coroner Dusty  Thomas previously told 13WMAZ. "We have had multiple wrecks over the past 20 years I’ve been working here. When you are out here, wear your seatbelt and drive safely.”

Two trucks crashed into each other causing a fiery wreck, Matthews said. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation's 511 websites, the crash happened just before 9:20 a.m..

He says no one was killed in the crash Tuesday morning.

But just two months earlier, two other semi-trucks collided at the intersection and left a man dead.

It happened on May 21. One truck t-boned another truck, Matthews said at the time.

Milledgeville man Randall Wilson was killed after burning to death after his truck was t-boned by a truck driver from California, a lawsuit filed by his family alleges.

According to the lawsuit, Navneet Singh was driving down Georgia Highway 112. That’s when the lawsuit says Singh flew through a stop sign at the intersection with Georgia Highway 29 and Singh slammed into the semi-truck Wilson was driving.

Then, two weeks later, another accident near the same intersection left three people hurt in early June. In that crash, a driver was also failed to yield when it slammed into another vehicle.

Wilkinson County Sheriff Richard Chatman previously told 13WMAZ the intersection is very tough for people who are unfamiliar with the area. Because of that, it has been the site of a number of serious wrecks over the years.

"We've had a number of fatalities there. I can't give you an exact number. They have a number of fatalities there, serious injuries there," Chatman said.

13WMAZ has crews headed to the scene to hopefully find out more information. We'll share more information when it becomes available.
