Two men arrested in Milledgeville after drive by shooting on Monday

The Milledgeville Police Department says the case began around 5:50 p.m. on Monday, when they got reports of shots fired around the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — Two men have been arrested following a drive by shooting that happened in Milledgeville on Monday.

Antonio Williams and Nicholas Simpson are charged with several aggravated assault counts, with Williams also picking up charges for possession of a firearm and property damage.

A release by the Milledgeville Police Department say the case began around 5:50 p.m. on Monday, when they got reports of shots fired around the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue.

When they arrived, they spoke to a homeowner whose house got hit multiple times by gunfire. A neighbor's car also had several bullet holes in it, and several shell casings were found in the roadway by the home.

Several witnesses said they saw a white sedan speeding away from the shooting. Detectives were able to identify the car and two suspects.

The next day at around 1:20 p.m., Milledgeville PD officers,  Georgia Department of Public Safety officers, Georgia State Patrol troopers, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Gang Task Force agents were canvassing the area for the white sedan when a trooper spotted it.

The trooper tried to conduct a traffic stop on the car, and the passenger (later identified as Williams) ran out of the car to Shiloh Avenue. The trooper chased him while the driver sped off in the car.

A few moments later, the release says two Milledgeville PD officers saw the sedan on Harrisburg Road and were able to box it in and stop it.

They say they arrested the driver, identified as Simpson.

In the meantime, a trooper and dog began to track Williams from the spot he ran from. The K9 unit found him hiding under an abandoned trailer on Peacock Road and the officer arrested him.

Simpson is charged with three counts of party to the crime of aggravated assault.

Williams is charged with three counts of aggravated assault; possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; and criminal damage to property in the 1st degree.
