A woman arrested after a Wilkinson County drug bust on Saturday died while en route from the Wilkinson County jail to a hospital around 7 a.m. Friday morning.
That's according to Wilkinson County Sheriff Richard Chatman.
Cynthia Mixon, 51, turned herself in to Wilkinson County authorities Tuesday night after the Saturday drug bust that involved two other people.
Sheriff Chatman says he got a call from jail staff saying Mixon appeared to be having a seizure, before rushing her to the hospital.
She died on the way.
Her body was taken to the GBI crime lab in Macon for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Chatman says when she turned herself this week, Mixon filled out a form saying she had high blood pressure and had a back injury.
She did not list any medications she was taking.
He says the GBI will look at all possibilities of what may have caused her death.
Chatman says he and the staff believe her death was medically related.
"My sympathy goes out to the family, and the circumstances," he said, "Regardless of what someone is in jail for, they're still human and you still have a sense of feeling for them."
Chatman says he had expected a judge to set bond for Mixon the same day.
Mixon was charged with selling prescription drugs.
Amanda Helms, 32, and her uncle, Herman Hendricks, 57, were charged with felony possession of schedule II drugs (oxycodone), among other charges. The drugs were allegedly purchased at Mixon's Ivey home.
