MACON, Ga. — Lisa Bryant's granddaughter Destiny Jones died in October 2020. Jones graduated from Dublin High School in 2019. Bryant says she's had past issues with her granddaughter's grave.
Bryant bought a plot at Cherry Blossom Memorial Gardens in Lizella. When Bryant visited Jones' grave site on Sunday, she said something wasn't right.
"It was heartbreaking. Tractor prints all through her grave," Bryant said.
Bryant says a worker apparently drove over Jones' gravestone to get to another grave. She says she likes to keep the grave clean and places flowers on her gravestone when she visits. Over the summer, Bryant found the plot in bad condition.
Bentley and Sons Funeral Home in Macon is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the cemetery. 13WMAZ called Deundray Bentley, who is the owner of the funeral home. We were not able to reach him for comment.
When we called the funeral home, a woman working the front desk told us when a complaint comes in about the gravesite, they fix it. Bryant says she's called the funeral home several times to resolve the issue but received a different response from one of the cemetery workers.
"And the man told me that there was nothing they could do at that time, but then I called back and he told me that, 'She ain't hurt, she's under the ground. Her body ain't been hurt,'" Bryant said.
Bryant says she doesn't want to cause a fuss about this issue, but says the owners' family plot is well-kept and cleaned but questions, "Why the other folks can't be nice?"
Bryant says when she tried to call the owners, they couldn't be reached. She had to call Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones to get in touch with the funeral home owners. Bryant just wants her granddaughter's gravesite to be undisturbed and at peace.
