Timeline: What we know about the Sabrina Long case

Long's high school classmate was recently charged with her 1991 murder.

In 1991, a teenager vanished from south Macon. For decades, her case remained cold, but last fall, things began heating up when investigators charged a woman with Sabrina Long's kidnapping.

Inside the Washington Memorial Library archives, there's a stack of Southwest High School yearbooks.

Among the pages of the 1989 edition, you'll find Sabrina Long's senior photo.

You'll also find old photos of Melinda McSwain, the woman now charged with Long's death.

In October, McSwain was charged with Long's kidnapping.

"I don't really have to have any names about who did it. I just want to know what happened," Sue Corley, Long's mother, told 13WMAZ in 1996.

But now she does have the name of the woman suspected of killing her daughter.

Long vanished from south Macon's Bloomfield neighborhood in 1991. For decades, investigators searched  for clues about the missing teen.

In recent years, the GBI assigned a new agent to the case, and this October, McSwain landed in jail.

"What I can tell you is we expect more interviews, we expect at least another search warrant or two in middle Georgia, and again, the whole focus and the whole goal is to try and find Sabrina Long," GBI Special Agent, JT Ricketson, told 13WMAZ in October.

Questions began swirling when Swain was charged with Long's kidnapping -- Who is she? What could her motive be?

Authorities didn't release much information, except to say the two women were high school classmates.

On Tuesday, a grand jury indicted Swain on malice and felony murder charges.

Investigators still have not said if Long's remains have been located.

Melissa Long, Sabrina Long's sister, sent a statement to 13WMAZ:

"We don’t have any information as far as details into the case other than what’s been reported so far. It is a very difficult time and I’m just still trying to process it all. It’s kinda happening really fast so my mind and my heart are trying to play catch up with a ton of different emotions.

I think the hardest for me personally, are the images that keep running through my mind. For 28 years our minds have been all over the place. Now, with these new developments, it’s hard not to think about what her last moments were like. I’m just trying to prepare myself for that information when and if it’s made available.

The pain, never goes away. If anything else, it just gets worse. We don’t forget, I guess in a way you just learn to live with it. Never forgetting, but you have to go on ya know. You have to live some kind of normalcy. It’s always there though. I miss her so much and I can’t help but to be so angry right now, so angry, and I’m not going to apologize for that.

Above all else though, we are forever grateful for Madison (GBI) and his team. We wouldn’t be here if not for their hard work and persistence. They’re our heroes in all of this. "
