'Third time's the charm' | The first cultural festival hosted by Warner Robins set for Saturday

It's scheduled to happen "rain or shine" on Perkins Field from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the first Saturday of September.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The first cultural festival hosted by the City of Warner Robins has a new date set for the third time this year.

Now, the International City Experience is scheduled to happen on Perkins  Field from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the first Saturday of September.

"It's still rain or shine; we're just going to take it hour by hour," marketing coordinator Lera Moncrief said.

Moncrief works for the city's Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

"Our first one was to be in March, but that was delayed because of weather,"  she explained. "Then we pushed it to May, but that got delayed because  of weather, so here we are in September."

Moncrief said in addition to some new groups joining the event's cast, about 75% of the original entertainers and vendors will be at this weekend's event.

Now, the festival could open for another cultural occasion in less than a couple of weeks if everything goes according to plan.

"Community, Culture & Art is going to have an ofrenda, which is kind of the kick-off to Hispanic Heritage Month because that starts Sept. 15,"  Moncrief explained.

With a potential chance of rain on Sept. 7, Moncrief explained they're preparing the festival for different situations.

"If there's thunder or lightning, that's a bit dangerous," she said. "So,  we have some experts in the field that would be able to assist us."

Moncrief said experts like the county emergency services will be available. She continued to say the city anticipates the show going on in spite of the potential chance of rain.

According to Moncrief, there is a shelter for entertainment; she advises eventgoers to head to their cars for shelter.

She said that in addition to all city departments working the event, about 15 volunteers signed up to help.

If you want to engage in community service, you can email cvbinfo@wrga.gov.

"It is going to be a day of interactive performances, cultural vendors, and cultural cuisine," Moncrief said. "Third time's the charm!"
