MACON, Ga. — Some theatre awards may soon find their way to Macon, and your votes can make it happen.
Both Theatre Macon and Macon Little Theatre (MLT) have nominations in the Broadway World Awards. It's a national publication that covers professional and non-professional theatre performances. Both Macon theatres are nominated in several categories for their productions.
"It's been very exciting and warm and, especially in this holiday season, to know how grateful I am for the support our community has shown and continues to show our local theatres," artistic director for Theatre Macon Richard Frazier said.
Both theatres are nominated in the Atlanta region among non-professional theatres. While they are up against some big players Macon Little Theatre artistic director JP Haynie says they have good chances of bringing some awards back home to Central Georgia.
Haynie says he's proud to live in a community so involved with theatre.
"We try to select shows and find projects that will represent our audience, you know, your neighbors and friends and kids to come up and enjoy working on live theatre and we think that's really important," he said.
MLT and Theatre Macon have nominations for best ensemble, best actor, best costume design, and more in the Broadway World Awards.
Shows nominated include The Wolves, Lost on Yonkers, Young Frankenstein, Avenue Q and more for Macon Little Theatre. Theatre Macon has nominations for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Hair, Singin' in the Rain, The Play That Goes Wrong and more.
Central Georgia is home to many excellent community theatres and Frazier says he's grateful to work with each of his colleagues.
"And to create this unique ecosystem that we have here. It's unmatched and not a lot of other midsize cities like Macon have arts and put the focus on arts as much as we do here," he said.
You can also vote for your favorite local theatre. So, if you loved a show this season, now is your time to show your appreciation by voting.
Haynie says every vote counts.
"If every single you-know parent, or patrol or cast member who worked on our stage or been involved in one of these productions or seen on of these productions and what's to support us as an organization that may be the one that puts us over the edge when we get to the final tally on the 31st," he said.
