Texas man dies after being attacked by bees while clearing out trees

A 75-year-old man died after disturbing a nest of Africanized honey bees on his ranch.

BEDIAS, Texas — Officials are warning Texans to be extra careful when trimming trees after a man died in a bee attack.

It happened in Bedias, which is in Grimes County just west of Huntsville, on Tuesday, according to reporting from CBS station KBTX.

The 75-year-old man was bulldozing trees on his ranch when he unknowingly disturbed a nest of Africanized honey bees, which are known to be very aggressive.

The man was stung more than 60 times on his face and neck.

The Grimes County Justice of the Peace said bee hives are common and the community should be aware of them.

"The severity of what happened and how this could happen to anybody and we don't think about these things," Chris Acord said.

Experts say you should cover your head and face as you find a safe space to get away from the bees in the event of an attack. If you're allergic to bee stings, you should call 911 and always keep an EpiPen on you.
