UPDATE | Telfair County Schools lockdown lifted, student in custody

McRae-Helena Police Chief Glenn Giles says the threat came in by text message

TELFAIR COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE, 2:33 p.m.

Chief Giles says the lockdown has been lifted at all Telfair County Schools, and they have a juvenile student in custody.

He says the threat was a shooting threat, and the student is being taken to the youth detention center.

The juvenile is charged with terroristic threats and transmitting a false alarm, both felonies, and disruption of a public school.

Giles says no weapon was found.

Original Story, 10:16 a.m.

All Telfair County Schools are under lockdown Monday after a threat was sent by a text message.

That's according to McRae-Helena Police Chief Glenn Giles.

Giles says multiple agencies including the Board of Education, the McRae-Helena Police Department, Telfair County Sheriff's Office, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation are looking into it.

He says they do not know who sent the threat as of right now.

Giles says their top priority is the safety and security of their students.

This comes after a 6th grader was detained and charged after making a school shooting threat through social media Friday.
