Taylor County Schools cancel class Friday due to threat, report says

The school district says they are aware of several threats that have been made to the school this week.

TAYLOR COUNTY, Ga. — The Taylor County school district has canceled classes for Friday after threats were made towards the school, according to a report from Taylor County schools superintendent Jennifer Albritton.

On Friday, they announced the school district will postpone their scheduled football game against Montogomery County to Saturday at 1 p.m.

The first threat came in on Wednesday night, a Facebook post from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office says.

They say they learned threats were made via social media, and identified a suspect in the case. The report says they interviewed both the suspect and the suspect’s grandparents.

The suspect was then arrested and taken to a youth development center, according to the report.

The school district’s live feed says they became aware of a second threat toward the school on Thursday, and contacted law enforcement.

No arrests have been announced by the sheriff’s office since, and the school district says the investigation is still in process.

They say they are also aware of a threat toward the school for Friday, and have consulted law enforcement.

“At this time, we have no reason to believe these threats are credible,” the feed says.

They say schools will remain closed out of caution for the safety of students and staff. The 7:30 football game against Montgomery County has not been canceled.
