Here's why prices are so high for streaming services

The cable industry made a lot of money for decades. So far, streaming services haven't been able to replicate that success.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Odds are you've probably complained about how much you're paying for streaming services. It may even feel like you're paying for cable again, but it turns out streaming companies may not have a choice.

The cable industry made a lot of money for decades. So far, streaming services haven't been able to replicate that success.

Let's connect the dots.

Cable was so successful due to the money it was generating from advertisements, but as people gravitate toward ad-free streaming services, many advertisers are shifting to social media to promote their products, as reported by Axios.

Now, many streaming services are bundling together to offer several different services for cheaper than it would cost if you subscribed to them all individually.

The pressure is on for these companies to get people to buy these bundles as they come out. For the past few years, cable revenues were subsidizing a lot of streaming losses.

You can stream WCNC Charlotte on Roku, Amazon Fire TV and Apple TV, just download the free app.

As cable gets phased out by the plethora of streaming services, companies are losing that safety net and are being forced to go all in on streaming bundles to stay alive.
