See what places are open or closed this Juneteenth holiday

Central Georgia's government offices have closed, while many stores remain open. See the specifics below.

MACON, Ga. — You may have a little time on your hands.

With the celebration of Juneteenth, many people have time off for the federal holiday.

However, before you try to get your errands done today, take a look where you can and cannot go this federal holiday.

What’s closed?

Like any federal holiday, all non-essential federal, state and city government offices will be closed for the holiday.

All government agencies and offices, like the DMV or Commissioners offices will be closed and inaccessible.

Additionally, any banks, post offices and credit unions will also be closed for the Juneteenth holiday.

With the post office being closed, all mail will not be delivered this Wednesday. Instead, mail will be delivered the day after, on Thursday.

While the U.S. Postal Service will not be delivering mail, FedEx, UPS, and Amazon Prime will continue deliveries despite the holiday.

Health department's, including the North Central and South Central Health District, will be closed this holiday. This includes the Macon/Bibb County Health Department, the Houston County Health Department and all others withing the North and South Central Health Districts.

It may be hot this time of year, but public pools will not be open this federal holiday. Due to being government owned, the pools will shut down alongside the other government offices and services.

However, since pools in apartment complexes are privately owned, they may or may not be open. Check with your complex administration to see their hours for the holiday.

What’s open?

In general, if a store or restaurant is a chain, it will likely be open

All grocery store chains will be open this Wednesday despite the holiday

Walmart, Kroger, Publix, Sam’s Club, Costco, Aldi and Target will be open during their regular hours on Wednesday. As such, everyone can get some grocery shopping done today.

Pharmacies like Walgreens and CVS alongside Publix and Kroger pharmacies will also be open and operating under normal business hours if you have a prescription to refill.

All restaurant chains are open on Juneteenth, so you can take a break from the kitchen if you want.

Fast food chains like Chick-Fil-A, McDonalds, Wendy’s and Burger King will all be open. Dunkin’ and Starbucks will also be open so you can get your coffee fix if you're out and about.

Sit-down chains like Chili’s, Olive Garden and Texas Roadhouse are also all open today.

Home improvement stores like Home Depot or Lowes or craft stores like Joann’s or Hobby Lobby are open for those wanting to work on a few projects in their off time.

Local Chains?

Unlike chains, local restaurants, hardware stores or farmers markets will depend on each location.

Independent owners will control their stores hours, so check online or call them to get specifics.
