Southwest High basketball legend dies at 59

Terry Fair brought Southwest back-to-back championships and carried UGA to the Final Four

MACON, Ga. — One of the early stars of the Southwest High School basketball dynasty in Macon is dead.

Coroner Leon Jones says Terry Fair died of natural causes at his home Thursday night.

Fair helped lead Southwest to state titles in 1978 and 1979. The '79 team finished the season undefeated and ranked #1 in the nation.

Fair's name tops the trophy commemorating that championship. The back-to-back titles launched a string of dominance under head coach Don "Duck" Richardson that spanned into the 1990's. He was named a McDonald's All-American.

Fair was among a group of players to appear during the Georgia prep basketball championship weekend in 2019 for a ceremony to honor the 1979 squad.

After his time at Southwest High, Fair went on to star at the University of Georgia and anchored the 1983 team that played in the NCAA Final Four.

Fair had a long career playing professionally overseas.  Right now, we're still waiting to hear funeral arrangements.

Terry Fair was 59-years-old.
