DUBLIN, Ga. — Hundreds of people made their way through Southern Pines Park to get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
They included healthcare professionals, first responders, and people 65 and older.
According to Melissa Brantley, Public Information Officer at South Central Health District, hundreds of appointments are being made everyday.
Sherrell Edmond, a caregiver, did not imagine the process to run the way it did.
"I was surprised about how quickly it went through being I had some friends that had already sent picture texts showing long lines," Edmond said, "For seven cars to be in front of me, and we all got through in five minutes -- that's awesome."
Thanks to South Central Health District, getting your vaccine is easy and fast.
You can call to make an appointment or register online to have them call you back for an appointment time.
“We did that because so many phone lines issues. We didn’t want to frustrate people. We wanted people to know they would get reached out to if they couldn’t get through our phone lines,” said Brantley.
Edmond said she got a call back in less than 24 hours and had an appointment the next day.
The longest part of the process is after the shot. They hold you to make sure you don’t have a reaction and are safe to leave the site.
"Just knowing that you had EMT staff supporting the cause, you had law enforcement that was there, as well, so you felt protected, but also, they were looking after our wellbeing, as well as making sure that we had all resources available," said Edmond.
South Central Health District couldn’t be prouder with the feedback from past recipients.
“It’s making our jobs a whole lot easier. It’s definitely exciting but emotional,” said Brantley.
The South Central Health District covers 10 counties. They have scheduled other drive-thru vaccine sites, that all require an appointment.
If you're eligible, you can schedule by calling (478)275-6570.
