Skeletal remains found in south Macon woods

Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley says the remains were found in a campsite area often used by homeless people.

MACON, Ga. — Bibb County coroners are trying to identify remains found in a wooded area in south Macon Monday.

Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley says skeletal remains were found in the woods near the intersection of 5th Street and Cynthia Avenue.

Miley says they were found around 5:18 p.m. in a makeshift campsite area often used by homeless people.

He added that they appear to have been there for a while, and they’ll have to be sent to the crime lab to be identified.
