MACON, Ga. — Multiple vehicles were broken into at the Ronald McDonald House on Forsyth Street in downtown Macon, the Bibb County Sheriff's Office confirmed.
They said that, sometime around 4:15 a.m., six different vehicles were entered or broken into.
The Ronald McDonald House is a place dedicated to allowing families a place to stay while their child or children are in the hospital.
Their website says that they look to provide "all the comforts of home," alongside having staff, volunteers and other families steps away from the local hospital.
Bethany Ainsworth, the assistant director of development for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia said that many of the families there were from out of town.
She said she's spoken to some of the families impacted by the break in.
"Honestly it is heartbreaking," Ainsworth said. "These families have children who are ill or injured, they are in the hospital and they're from out of town. They're here so they can be close to their children when their children need them the most."
Ainsworth said that they've already received donation from the Central Georgia community to help fix the broken windows. She said that people can park at the Atrium Health Navicent parking garage if they can't get their windows fixed right away.
Grow Fresh Local Food, after learning about the damages, noted that all funds from any meat or veggie lasagna's purchased would go to a fund to help the families get their cars repaired.
They quickly sold out and announced they had raised enough money to cover all of the damages for the vehicles.
