WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — A Warner Robins family says they're in disbelief after they say someone tried to steal their guide dog.
Kim Ledford has owned his dog, Sam, for the last five years. He's not just an ordinary dog.
"I'm legally blind," said Ledford.
He calls his guide dog his pair of eyes.
"I only see images and shadows beyond the end of my nose," said Ledford.
So, the sable and white smooth-coated collie helps Ledford get around, but on Saturday morning he says a man hopped his fence and tried to take him.
Ledford says the man assaulted his girlfriend when she confronted him, hopped the fence, and ran off before they could catch him.
"If I was close enough, and I could get my hands on him, I'd beat the crap out of him," said Ledford.
Ledford called the Warner Robins Police Department, but says he's still shaken up, because the man got away.
"To think that they would actually steal a man's eyes. I mean that's beneath me. They have no heart," said Ledford.
Sam's owners say they plan to watch him more closely when he's let out for a quick bathroom break to try and keep this from happening in the future.
"He's like one of my kids, although he's got four legs. Sam keeps me safe each and every day," said Ledford.
Ledford says Sam is traffic trained. He says he plans to replace his four-foot fence with a six-foot fence as a safety measure.
