A survey by the All On Georgia website lists C.B. Watson Primary School as number 14 out of 100 of Georgia’s elementary schools with the best teachers.
So, we're showing their teachers some love as the winner of our School of the Week!
Heather Harvey is going on eight years as a teacher.
“Great teachers are teachers that put the kids first, and they build relationships not only with the students, but with teachers in the building and also with the parents,” Harvey said.
For her, being a teacher was always her dream.
“I've always had a passion for kids, and just helping kids be better in life,” Harvey said.
That passion is what Principal Alicia Conner says makes teachers at C.B. Watson Primary School stand out.
“If you don't have that, something inside of you that says I want to be a teacher, sometimes it doesn't work out but the people inside this building want to be here,” Conner said.
Their ranking on the survey is based on student and parent ratings, teacher absenteeism and student-teacher ratio.
English language teacher Tami Karimoto says she appreciates the recognition.
“All the hard work that the teachers are putting in, the extra hours of planning or making those phone calls at night with the parents to figure out what needs to get done to help this child. I think all that pays off because we're finally getting recognized for the hard work we're doing,” Karimoto said.
Harvey says she couldn't imagine doing anything else.
“I just love it, I love them, they're great,” she said.
Her first grade student Julian Solomon feels the same way.
“I just love coming to school because I get to see my teacher every week,” Solomon said.
Houston County’s Bonaire Elementary ranked 17th on the list.
