MACON, Ga. — While Hurricane Helene has come and gone through, many parts of Central Georgia are still impacted from the storm.
Roads are still closed due to trees and power lines being down, and many are still without power, food or water.
Due to the fallout from Helene, schools have begun to close school for the next few days during the cleanup from the storm. Many were closed on Thursday and nearly all schools were shut down on Friday.

Full Updated List of School Closures
Hancock County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed on Closed on Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4
- The school board cited power outages and downed trees for the decision to close the school for a full week.
- The school system said it may take one to two weeks for power to restored
Johnson County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed on Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4
- All after school activities through Friday are cancelled.
Laurens County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed Wednesday, Oct. 2
Oconee Fall Line Technical College
- Cancellation Dates: Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4.
- The college will be closed due to widespread power outages and limited cell service in the area.
- The Fall Commencement ceremony scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 3 will be rescheduled at a later date.
Telfair County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed on Monday, Sept. 30 through Monday, Oct. 7
- All extra curricular activities have been shut down through Monday.
Treutlen County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed on Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4
- All athletic events and practices are canceled during this time
- The school hopes this gives enough time for power to be restored
Washington County
- Cancellation Dates: Closed on Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4
- The school board elected to close for three days due to the "extensive damage, power outages and limited communication"
- The board said that coaches will be in contact for after school activities.
- The school board said employees can pick up their paper checks at the Board of Education office from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Wheeler County
- Cancellation Dates: Monday, Sept. 30 through Friday, Oct. 4
- All schools will be closed on all three days "due to severe damages" from Hurricane Helene.
- School will be back to normal for students and staff on Thursday, Oct. 3, unless the conditions in the county worsen.
