SANDERSVILLE, Ga. — It's not a sight you see every day.
A Tennille man — who authorities believe was under the influence — stole a Sandersville Public Works vehicle Monday morning and led authorities on a high-speed chase down the Fall Line Freeway, according to the Washington County Sheriff's office.
Sheriff Joel Cochran said that the theft happened just after 9 a.m. Monday morning.
When Washington County Sheriff's Office deputies attempted to stop the driver, the public works truck kept on driving, kicking off a high-speed chase with deputies and Georgia State Patrol, Cochran said.
After speeding along Fall Line Freeway, Georgia State Patrol troopers used a PIT Maneuver to spin the truck out in Wilkinson County. The chase came to an end just outside of Gordon, Cochran said.
He says the man, 41-year-old Jerrel Walker, was taken into custody and he faces a number of charges related to the chase and theft of the government vehicle.
Cochran says Walker was arrested on felony theft by taking, felony fleeing to elude police, DUI, reckless driving along with other traffic offenses. He also had a warrant out for his arrest for probation violation in Johnson County.
Walker was booked into the Washington County jail.
