Rose Hill Cemetery unveils new kiosk, self-guided walking tour for visitors

Folks can now use QR codes to access a virtual map of the area as well as videos at notable stops that explain the history of the cemetery.

MACON, Ga. — Just in time for Halloween, Rose Hill Cemetery has a new kiosk and walking tour for guests who want to learn more about its history.

On Tuesday morning, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the cemetery to open a new kiosk area for visitors.

City leaders also unveiled a map that sits inside the kiosk so visitors can better navigate the gravesite.

The map includes a QR code so visitors have a virtual map, and there are around 20 other QR codes scattered amongst the gravestones so people can learn more about the different areas they visit.

Now, you can take guided tours on your own time.

Bill Causey, who was a consultant for Macon-Bibb on the project, says he hopes this addition will make it easier for people to walk around and learn more about the history of the place.

"I hope they take away a greater appreciation and a greater knowledge of what's in Rose Hill and where it's located. It's pretty overwhelming if you just wander around through here looking for things. So it's nice to have an up-to-date map that's easy to read and understand," he said.

Causey also said the project took two years to complete, and he hopes the community will put it to good use.

If you want to try the tour for yourself, just pay a visit to the gazebo at the entrance of the cemetery, and you'll find the new map and QR codes.
